1. What are your hours of operation?
The Parks & Recreation Department office located at Herman C. Michael Park is open Monday through Friday from 8:00am - 6:00pm.
2. Where are you located?
Herman C. Michael is located at 1051 Elder Road in Bishop, just off Highway 53/Hog Mountain Road.
Bogart Sports Complex is located at 200 South Burson/Thompson Street in Bogart, behind the Bogart Library.
Heritage Park is located in Farmington on Highway 441, seven miles south of downtown Watkinsville and ten miles north of downtown Madison.
3. How do I register for a sports activity?
- Register online at www.oconeecounty.com and click on Parks and Recreation, or
- Come by Herman C. Michael Park to fill out the registration form and pay the activity fee (no cash accepted).
- Registration dates for activities are printed in our quarterly brochure and continues until registration deadline or until activity fills.
4. How can I volunteer to coach a team sport?
- Contact Herman C. Michael Park.
- Complete a Coach's Application form.
- Complete a Criminal History Background Check form.
- Attend and complete the National Youth Sports Coaches Association (NYSCA) certification program, and
- Attend the pre-season coaches' clinic.
- The Program Coordinator for the sport will select coaches on a need basis and contact selected coaches with date information for the clinics and the season.
5. How do I complete the Parents Association of Youth Sports (PAYS) requirement in order for my child to participate in a team sport?
- Go to http://paysonline.nays.org, then
- Select First Time Member with a Chapter, then
- Select our chapter from the Drop Down List - GA, Oconee County Parks and Rec, then
- Type the code: 1250 (Note: You do not have to pay for this), then
- Click NEXT.
- Or call Herman C. Michael Park, (706) 769-3965, and ask when the next class is being held. Every season there are two classes held at Herman C. Michael for parents to attend the 20-minute class.
6. How do I know if a game has been cancelled?
- Game cancellations are determined by 4 p.m. each day.
- The coaches or league representatives are contacted if games are cancelled.
- Coaches will then contact parents with cancellation information.
- After hours or on the weekend, you may contact the office at 706-769-3965 and follow the prompts for Game Cancellations.
7. When does registration start and/or end for a sporting activity?
- Refer to the activity guide available at Herman C. Michael Park, or
- Go to www.oconeecounty.com and click on the brochure link, or
- Go to www.oconeecounty.com and click on Parks and Recreation Internet Registration, click on Registration, then click on the specific sport, or
- Call Herman C. Michael at (706) 769-3965 for more information.
8. How do I get my name on the waiting list for a sporting activity?
- Register online at www.oconeecounty.com and the site will automatically place you on the waiting list if the activity is already full, or
- Come to Herman C. Michael and fill out a registration form and a staff person will place you on the waiting list.
9. How do I make a field or shelter reservation?
- Come by Herman C. Michael Park.
- Complete a "Request for Use of Facilities" form, and
Pay the rental fee and deposit, if deposit required.
- A two (2) week notice is required on facility rentals.
- Fee rates are found in the quarterly brochure and online at www.oconeecounty.com - Parks & Recreation link.
