What is Disc Golf?

Disc Golf is a fantastic recreation activity and a lifetime sport for all ages. It is a competitive sport played worldwide, including Northeast Georgia.

Disc Golf is played similar to traditional golf, except discs rather than golf balls are thrown to hit chain targets. The game scores with PAR the same as traditional golf. Disc golf can be played with the basic set up of a driver disc, mid-range disc and a putter disc. Golf discs average in cost around $10. With a valid I.D., the Oconee County Parks & Recreation Department offers loaner discs & bags free for check-out. Herman C. Michael Park has an 18 hole course that is free to play during park hours.

Oconee Disc Golf

The “Herm” is open for recreational playing during park hours. The course will be closed for recreational playing May 3, 2008. On this date we will host our very first disc golf tournament, the MAY DAY MADNESS. The course layout runs primarily through the tree lines along the paved walking trail of the park. Difficulty in shots is varied through the trees and a few short open fairway shots.

Score cards have the course map printed on the back and are available in the park office or can be downloaded from the website. The course is marked for long tee & short tee holes with easy to read directional arrows to the next tee. Each hole is labeled with distance and par.

Experience this fun recreation activity today at Oconee County Parks Recreation Department’s Herman C. Michael Park.
